my question is do i do the test with the car at operating temp? or cold?.. and what is the real compression specs? people keep saying 135psi+-35 max 180psi or something like that. but theres other that say they have 220psi.. the motor did 226hp and 159tq. but i have ips k2 .

I've done compression test before on my old b series. Should i be worried about something? just get a battery and jumper cables. with the tranny and starter installed attatch negative anywhere on the motor, and the positive to the starter + and solenoid
I decided to do a compression test on my car yesterday just because. Here is what I found. (2010 Si, stock K20Z3 with 72,000 miles on it.) Cylinder 1- 80psi. Cylinder 2- 85psi. .Actually I see the problem. Your Exhaust cam is about 20 degrees retarded from where a stock K20 is. I just tested on the simulator and our ECU will give trigger errors with the exhaust cam . Here's how to do the compression test with the engine out of the car. On a newly purchased used engine, it is important to make an assessment of the health of the engine. The compression.
Ran a compression test while the engine was stone cold as i could ensure this was consistant accross all cylinders. All 4 came out at 190 psi stone cold so i am happy with . it can vary so much tbh, but you are looking for them to be very close to each other within 28psi , they can be as low as 170 and as high as 230 on healthy engines, the test . Like @Lotus said, the bigger the overlap, the less dynamic compression is available. Especially if one combines stock compression ratio with bigger cams. But, I know . k20 Compression test. Was doing a pre-tune compression test and got some startling results. 1, 3, and 4 200 PSI on the money. Cylinder 2 was at 105 PSI. I added a little bit of oil to the cylinder to see if it would help seal, and it did. brought the comp. up to a consistent 165.
Lowering the Compression on a K20 Motor for a Turbo & general question on engine mods Hello I am in the process of building a K20A2 Motor for my RSX Type S. I would like to be able to use pump gas so it can be somewhat of a daily driver. The standard K20A2 motor puts out about 200 HP and 142 Ft Lbs of torque with a 11:1 Compression. Thread starter Bennett Prescott; Start date Oct 25, 2011; Forums. Pro Audio. Test Drive . but I like to limit long term power so drivers don't really see power compression (which works better with some drivers in some boxes than others). . M50Q Well I have had the pleasure of taking a few of these "little" amps for a test drive (K20+K3). My . Dynamic compression is the compression under load, and static is compression measured from a gauge when the car is off. Dynamic compression can be lowered to basically, almost whatever you want, by keeping the valve open longer. So a K20 motor with say 12:1 compression could be 9:1 compression when the thing hits VTEC. .
They found no compression in all cylinders and assumed the timing chain broke. I pulled the valve cover and confirmed the broken chain. I then removed the camshafts to check for bent valves, none. Leakdown test showed all four cylinders the same at 15-20%. I don't have a compression tester but assume it will show good results. tday815518 Discussion starter 390 posts . Hi everyone, I performed a compression test on my 454. I purchased my Chevelle 6 years ago with a nice running 454 in it. Lol FK. Im running out of options quick. Swapped Batteries lol. New Starter that Cranks like a top. New Sparkplugs, Swapped Coil Packs. Compression 170 across all cylinders, I didn't tighten tester fitting all the way because the bottom connector has gotten stuck in there before and it was a PIA. More of a scare than anything.
The K20 (2.0L) engine family has four different variants, each with their own sub-variants. These include the K20A, K20B, K20C, and K20Z. All K20 variants share very similar engine construction, retaining 2.0L of displacement, the same stroke and bore, and DOHC valvetrain. All engines in the K20 family have aluminum head and block construction . Ok thanks buddy, I did a test with a cold engine (didn't hold throttle open, was closed, didn't know) and it read between 183-190 psi in each cylinder, I'm a bit worried as I thought this was a little low, its over fueling a bit at the moment as it has a DC Sports decat and 3'' solid fab exhaust and no map (engine lights not on)? so was worried about cylinder/bore health.
Ran a compression test while the engine was stone cold as i could ensure this was consistant accross all cylinders. All 4 came out at 190 psi stone cold so i am happy with the compression. All the coil packs look OK and are firing all cylinders as each one when pulled stops that cylinder from firing.

Leak down test or at leaste do a compression test. Get a real tune after that son 4g63 pistons do work and give a weird c/r but work like a charm The G23 is: H/F23 block, crank, rods, k20 pistons and a dual cam head
A good ground path should measure zero voltage loss (no voltage drop). It is possible that a loose starter, corroded surfaces or faulty ground cables are stealing cranking voltage from the motor. If you just replaced the starter and it cranks slow or not at all, test for a proper ground by using a voltmeter – test, don’t guess! Test Procedure: Compression testing is a good way to test the internal condition of your engine. It's easy and it only takes a few minutes. Here is a quick guide on how to do a compression test. You will need a spark plug socket and ratchet or a spark plug tool to remove your spark plug and you will need a compression tester gauge. Sdboosted Discussion starter 3 posts .
